Gawad Kalinga, translated to English means to "Give Care", is a Philippine-based movement whose mission is to end poverty for 5 million families by 2024. GK employs an integrated and holistic approach to empowerment with values-formation and leadership development at its core.
On November 8, 2014, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded, Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), hit landfall in central Philippines bringing widespread damage. Over 14 million people were affected by this tragedy across the Visayas region, bringing the death toll to over 6200 people. The province of Aklan was affected by this typhoon.
The 2-week tour comprises of a cultural immersion of the Philippines, a 8-10 night stay at the village with host families where you will live and eat like a Filipino. Yes this may involve the ice bucket challenge every night! There will also be couple of nights stay at a resort for rest and reflection.
Challenge the Impossible next January with your friends and family, restoring hope and dignity to the people of the Philippines, empowering the communities for solidarity and sustainability. Challenge yourself to step out of the comfort of just donating money, when you can donate your time to experience and see volunteerism and community at its finest!
