The Hope Ball celebrated the achievements of GK Australia and brought together the many supporters of GKA from all around the nation.

Entertainment on the night was provided by local Filipino talents: Czarina, SuShi and Candice. Czarina a local Filipina singer and writer will serenade the audience, while they dine with her smooth sounds. SuShi, another local Filipino singer and songwriter sung two of his original songs on the night. Another performer named Candice graced everyone with her ballroom dance moves.

Prior to the ball, on 24 May, a forum was held to inform participants of the social entrepreneurship work of Gawad Kalinga. GK has a variety of internships all year round and this forum gave the opportunity to learn about them. The founder of Gawad Kalinga, Tito Tony Meloto was present at this event, making it a wonderful chance for people to know what GK is all about from the founder himself. Mr Fabian Corteille, a French intern at the GK Enchanted Farm also spoke at the event. Mr Corteille has established a social enterprise at the farm called ‘Karpentoys’, soft toys for children. His work is testament to how social enterprises can help change the world, one step at a time.

Overall, the event encapsulated two nights that aimed to open minds to the endless possibilities of creating sustainable businesses that will help in eradicating poverty.

“A generous life is a happy life. We reap more joy the more love we sow. Selfishness breeds poverty, peace is a stranger to the greedy.” Tito Tony Meloto
